Wellness Wednesday | Week 1: Does diet impact the health of your skin and can a few small changes make a difference?

Hello beauties, and welcome to our very own Wellness Wednesday Series. Follow along for the next 5 weeks as we discuss various topics like diet, supplements, detox and all things skin care with our friend, licensed naturopathic doctor here in Toronto,  Dr. Laura Belus. We’ll share tips, trends and the latest finding on all things health and beauty.

The idea of “beauty from the inside out” has always been incredibly important to us at Lines of Elan, and we knew we wanted to work closely with an expert to help us really understand the connection between diet, what role it plays in beauty, and how we can further improve skin, body and overall well-being.

We hope you find this series helpful and that you reach out via Instagram with questions of your own!

Week 1: Does diet impact the health of your skin and can a few small changes make a difference?

Diet and skin health are very closely related. This is because our skin is our largest organ and a reflection of our overall health. If you have premature aging, dark under-eye circles, ezcema or acne, your body is trying to tell you something” says Dr. Belus.

The simplest way to start improving your skin is two-fold: add in more of the good stuff, remove the bad stuff. In my private practice I encourage my patients to start with an elimination of processed foods first (take-out, prepared frozen food). These foods contain a lot of the inflammatory fat known as omega-6. It’s a simple change that can make a big impact in as little as a week.

As for the good stuff, my top 3 skin health foods are: lemons, leafy greens & berries. They all contain high amounts of antioxidants that repair, reduce inflammation, and give your skin that glow.

If you’re ready to take it up a notch, try eliminating a few more problem foods with my free 3 Day Whole Body Detox (it’s super easy, I promise!).

Lines of Elan Product Tip: Our Neroli Face oil is formulated with organic Camellia seed oil, a wonderful moisturizer that protects skin from drying out while replenishing vital nutrients, calming irritated skin, and helping to block out ultra violet rays.

Benefits of Camellia Oil Include:

  • Anti-Aging helps to minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Protects the skin - packed with antioxidants, it helps to protect against damage from environmental free radical
  • Anti-inflammatory – reduces inflammation on the skin
  • Outstanding hydration - locks in moisture, making this an ideal remedy for people whose skin is regularly exposed to the elements
